The Burden of Being a Housewife – Quality of Life

We may think that the job of a housewife does not include pressure because it is a may occupation. That is not the case, though. In reality, housewives do a lot of duties.

When we find hard employment, a high degree of commitment and a lack of spare time to induce stress, becoming a housewife is certainly a demanding profession. This ensures that a housewife will be subject to a lot of stressors.

The housewives: superwomen with superpowers

The main duty of a housewife is to take care of her family and her home. Her responsibilities include physical and mental stress.

Housewives are physically active during the day. They don’t have any timeframe. Since the moment they wake up until they go to sleep, they have to be engaged to fulfill their families’ needs. From personal needs to nutrition, the housewives do all the job. The responsibility of caring for a dependent family member lies with the mother.

At the same time, housewives must preserve order and cleanliness in their houses. This practice is never-ending, and every day they have to do it. Organize stuff for nothing, and then organize them again tomorrow.

The housewives have to exert continuous physical effort

The physical activity made by housewives appears to be more repetitive than intensity. However, certain people can assume that they also exert themselves physically. They’ve got to move furniture, carry heavy objects, hold a kid in their arms …

The housewives must be vigilant day or night for any unexpected situation, particularly if they have kids who cry, ask for things, or get sick. All this vigorous exertion leads to weariness. This fatigue leads to muscle weakness and exhaustion. Such aspects make up the burden of becoming a housewife.

Mental activity results in the stress of being a housewife

Many assume that the duties of a housewife do not require intellectual activity. This is not true, though. She has to prepare the menus, measure the costs, fix the problems of her children, etc. She has several different obstacles to face.

Most occupations, such as engineers, attorneys, infrastructure managers, or air traffic controllers, involve emotional fatigue. Though, if we look further into this, these occupations are no different from being a housewife. They also carry out essential activities, such as planning, resource management or communicative intelligence.

On the other hand, mental stress will lead to mental exhaustion. It reduces attention capability, leading to emotional instability. As a result, the burden of becoming a housewife is heightened by her resistance to emotional activity.

The housewife also has a life of her own

First of all, a housewife is a person. She has her own problems, emotions, and internal intricateness. What would happen if she suffered from certain kinds of tension, aside from the burden that comes from being a housewife?

Nowadays, we consider that many housewives, while bearing all the burden of their households, even work outside their houses. That’s, we’re talking about people who have two full-time jobs, with little to no support at all. The worst part of it is that all of these people are underestimated.

Being a housewife is a boring work for many women who never get the respect they deserve. The impression of being unimportant also serves as a cause for tension, causing a sense of alienation and discomfort within the walls of the housewife’s home.

“Success, they taught me, is built on the foundation of courage, hard-work and individual responsibility. Despite what some would have us believe, success is not built on resentment and fears.” – Susana Martinez
