We Don’t Have the Same Sense of Humor!

How to do when no one laughs at our jokes. Or when you mistake what was just a (bad) joke. Everything you need to know to … smile!

Not everyone likes the second degree jokes!

Children have no humor. Until they master the intricacies of language, they cannot play with words and signifiers. Not knowing whether or not you can believe what a parent says is incredibly unsettling for a child. It puts him in danger.

Some adults don’t have a sense of humor. Not everyone can buckle up if we make their certainties and benchmarks waltz. To see the ridiculous side of life, you have to be able to shift a bit. To agree to let yourself be disturbed. It’s not given to everyone and it doesn’t have to be a flaw. It’s just a shame.

However, it must be recognized that humor sometimes has a good back. We all met one day big heavy guys who threw us scuds who wanted to be funny and, seeing that it left us unmoved, got away with a rather pitiful “You have no sense of humor”.

It puts you right away in the camp of imbeciles who do not understand anything. They’re so shrewd, aren’t they … They think they’re funny, you’ll never be able to convince them that they’re not. In your eyes, anyway.

Don’t they find you funny? Too bad for them!

It’s not very pleasant to take a rake. To deliberately make a bad joke, for example, and find that everyone is looking at you in dismay. Or worse, that nobody understood that you were doing quadratic.

There are times like that for people with a sense of humor, great moments of loneliness. Do you know the famous English story of the man who is taken out of prison to be executed? He shoots a rock and exclaims, “This is a bad day!”. Doesn’t that even make you smile? Nothing serious.

You don’t have to laugh at the same things. Just be careful. When you don’t make others laugh, it’s better to change the register if you want to get along well with them.

It’s a story of belonging!

When we are in front of someone who balances nonsense with an inspired air, with a smile which announces the color to us (“attention, humor”), we manage how if we refuse to share the slightest complicity.? Because not reacting to a joke that is addressed to us is still a big slap for its author.

We make it clear to him that we don’t even want to laugh in his company. Whereas, when you’re on the same wavelength, it’s super jubilant to laugh about the same things.

Humor is shared between people who speak the same language. It really is a family affair. It determines membership. Because the basis of humor is the double meaning.

For Freud, it reveals the unconscious in the same way as the slip and the failed act. It reveals the hidden meaning of things, that implicit that we only share with loved ones. Between us, we can be made fun of, but beware of the one who is not part of the tribe and who is trying!

Fragile, refrain!

There is always aggression in humor. But not necessarily against others. Sometimes you torpedo yourself. We ridicule ourselves a bit, just to attract the sympathy of others that we hope hilarious. We show our weaknesses like Woody Allen who doesn’t make everyone laugh. Because he shows his anxieties.

And if it goes well in the cinema, it breaks a bit in real life. You don’t necessarily want to see other people’s weaknesses. Because they refer us to our own, well hidden in our subconscious and we especially do not want to get out of there.

Not to mention that some take the opportunity to dig into the loopholes revealed by self-mockery. However, while you can make fun of yourself, you do not allow others to do the same. This is all the subtlety of human relationships.

The most accomplished form of humor is being able to laugh at yourself and put up with others to do the same.

Certainly. But until we get there, what to do with those who do not amuse us at all and who think they are hilarious? “We have to try to understand why… we don’t understand. Think three minutes. Why doesn’t that make me laugh? It shocks me? It hurts me?”

In general, when you are able to ask questions, you have a sense of humor!. But when we refuse to ask ourselves and take everything literally, we may be on the way to intolerance. And we unfortunately know what that can lead to.

“Success, they taught me, is built on the foundation of courage, hard-work and individual responsibility. Despite what some would have us believe, success is not built on resentment and fears.” – Susana Martinez
