Our lives have been flipped upside down and inside out, but one thing is for sure: we need to return alive. For those of us with a roaming spirit, you might feel constrained all this time in one place. While we sit inside and stay safe, I encourage you to prepare your life-long bucket list, learn new skills, or take this time to compile your travel images into the ultimate travel memoir.
TRAVEL WITHOUT LEAVING HOME: PLAN YOUR ULTIMATE BUCKET LIST
One thing is for sure: when the planet is back on its feet, we all have plenty to do on the adventure continuum. Now that we’ve coped with how open and affordable travel is, we should be more vigilant with the destinations we chose and never take the opportunity to explore for granted.
COOK A MEAL FROM YOUR FAVORITE CUISINE
Food is one of the best things about traveling. Nourishing bowls of Japanese ramen, silk Italian noodles, hot Thai curries, Mexican tacos … the list goes on. What better way to enjoy the flavor of a vacation inside your own home than by having lunch in the kitchen.
LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE
Learning a foreign language offers you a stronger bond to another society and gives you a greater understanding of it. It also opens doors when personally entering places where the language is used.
VIRTUALLY VISIT A MUSEUM
Many of the world’s most emblematic museums offer free interactive tours. Clearly, it’s not the same as being in the city and visiting the various exhibitions in person. Virtual museums, however, present an opportunity for home travel. You could try a bunch of them from your sofa while you’re wearing pajamas.
READ A GREAT TRAVEL MEMOIR
Now is as good a time as any to bust open the bookcase and dust off the shelves. There are a variety of epic travel writings that must be on your “best of all time” list of readings, as well as more recent readings that you’ve not learned.
WATCH A TRAVEL FILM
Often a book isn’t going to cut it, so you really want instant travel to a certain time and place. There are some wonderful travel movies out there that never get old like Eat Pray Love, Into the Wild, Under the Tuscan Sun, and The Beach.
REVISIT YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL BLOGS
Unless you’re seeking a way to experience the pleasure of traveling without ever leaving your home, try reading a traveling blog. Bloggers are individual people who enjoy adventure, not businesses. You’ll get to see the world through their lens, and you’ll encounter all kinds of colorful people along the way. Now is the best time to explore some of your favorite travel sites and rediscover the places you can see when travel bans lift.
