Health We're Getting Old, So What?

We’re Getting Old, So What?

It’s written in us. We cannot escape it and yet this natural process triggers the worst resistance. But if getting older means losing a little, of course, it also means gaining knowledge, memories, and even energy and time for yourself.

We only have to turn on the small screen to find ourselves bombarded with advertisements encouraging us to reconnect with “firmer skin” and “smooth wrinkles” thanks to the latest product or the new stuffy anti-aging.

It’s hard to appreciate our faces when the whole world advises us to change it! Aging in 2018 is no longer a dirty word, because it is first and foremost to live with a capital” V “.

Generation in shape!

Everyone can feel it in their body and in their mind: we are getting old, of course, but we are not “old” when retirement arrives. If so many seniors run the marathon or travel the world in a motorhome, it is precisely because they are in great shape.

Today, aging is first and foremost about enjoying life longer. There is a real age and a felt age. And it’s not just in the head. Researchers working on memory know that staying energetic and sociable objectively decreases the risk of Alzheimer’s.

Geneticists, on the other hand, are realizing that telomeres can be regrown, the little plugs that overcome genes and activate aging by degrading over time. The secret? Respect your body and love life. This is good, because time also offers us new reasons to be happy.

The years enrich us!

More and more women are testifying to this: they feel more fulfilled at 60 than at 40. The children are grown up, the pace of life has slowed down and people are gaining time to take care of them.

Over the years, we also learn to accept ourselves as we are, and the gaze of others loses its evil power. We don’t care about our old little complexes, because we won’t let anything stand in the way of enjoying life.

As we know each other better, we are also able to know what we really like. We no longer force ourselves, but we no longer forbid ourselves anything either. Maybe that’s what becoming a philosopher is: take things as they come, stress free!

Society needs us!

Retirement is no longer synonymous with inaction, on the contrary. It is often the time for associative involvement, the time to take care of others. The greatest treasure we can bring to the world is our experience, and the lessons we have learned from it.

We pass on our knowledge in the company, before giving way to young people, but we also advise our children and grandchildren when they ask us questions. It is not only a question of teaching techniques, but of a “know-how” forged over time.

“Success, they taught me, is built on the foundation of courage, hard-work and individual responsibility. Despite what some would have us believe, success is not built on resentment and fears.” – Susana Martinez
