Women have obvious assets to be successful business leaders.
Even if the election or appointment of women to positions of responsibility should be obvious, it took laws on gender equality and the introduction of quotas on boards of directors to allow good progress in terms of representativeness.
In addition, the number of women entrepreneurs has increased slightly in recent years. We owe it in priority to our motivation and our ambition. But let us recognize that measures such as the parenthood charter and the creation of nurseries in companies have enabled women to better manage their professional and family agenda. These devices therefore shine the spotlight on female talents.
However, let’s share some recipes for taking on and succeeding in a “feminine” career:
First, you have to gain self-confidence and be daring! Women have qualities that are both innate, but also developed thanks to their way of life: courage, the key to management; versatility, essential to be the conductor of a company; pugnacity, the sinews of war especially in negotiations with bankers, partners, suppliers or customers, but also their feeling, empathy and creativity.
This is not enough, you have to be organized and learn to delegate. Prioritizing is a difficult art but essential if a day is not to be a marathon. It is therefore important to keep what is essential and entrust to your employees what is less, what we do not master less well or what we no longer have the time to do.
Then, women must assume and integrate certain areas that are more naturally attributed to men. They have to manage their network which requires taking part in many events. Then, financial and management issues must be addressed in concrete terms.
When a woman is ambitious, she shouldn’t hesitate to ask! A business leader must find funds from banks and investors to develop her business; a manager, manager or not, must dare to ask for an increase when she considers it justified; an employee who wishes to progress can discuss an evolution or a change of position. There are no insurmountable pitfalls!
Finally, concerning family life, children are still the main concern of mothers, but here too you have to know how to entrust your offspring, without feeling guilty but by having selected the right people or the right establishments.
The main ingredients for any project are the desire and the will to make it happen. With most of the means available, it’s up to each person to play their part to be well balanced between professional / family life and to succeed! Get started!
