Many people mistakenly believe that feminism is focused solely on girls and women and that it has an inherent objective of promoting the women’s superiority over men.
Feminism is NOT a movement aimed at excluding men, but at excluding in society the patriarchal ideas which are cemented. Feminism is NOT aimed at making men lesser than women, but at improving the status of being a woman so that it’s equal to that of being a man.
Feminism is NOT about diminishing men’s value, but rather pointing out the things that some men do that increase the degradation of women. Feminism is NOT about reversing the status quo and oppressing men, but about challenging the status quo to stop oppressing women.
As a matter of fact, feminism has always been about observing the social world in a way that collides with forces to create and support inequality, oppression, and injustice, and hence, stimulates the work towards equality and justice.
Feminism is about fighting inequality in all of its forms that includes classism, racism, global corporate colonialism, heterosexism and homophobia, xenophobia, religious intolerance, and especially, the persistent problem of sexism. It is also about going against them on a global level, and not only inside our own communities and societies, because we are all connected by globalized systems of economy and governance, and because of this, power, privilege, and inequality are issues we are all facing.
All forms of feminism are valid, and each woman has the right to express herself in any way she wants to as long as she is being offered the same rights and opportunities that members of the opposite sex are.
Feminism is about:
The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
Equality: The state of being equal, especially in status, rights or opportunities.
Having a choice: The act of choosing between two or more possibilities.
