This last week in the United States was exceptionally frightening. Considering the nation is struggling with decades of racist violence in the midst of a global pandemic that extremely touches Black Americans. Everyone from citizens to celebrities and especially females have been actively engaged in the Black Lives Matter movement and protesting against racism that led to the unjust deaths of George Floyd, Sean Reed, Breonna Taylor and more..
As the crowds of protestors are turning out in droves to oppose against systemic racism and police brutality around the world. Female celebrities have also had a significant role in the Black Lives Matter movement. They have taken to their platforms and used their influence to speak and call for action, flooding the streets and marching against racial profiling and unjust treatment.
Power of influence.
While some female famous faces like Chrissy Teigen, Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, Blake Lively, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Meghan Markle have made matching donations to National Bail Fund Network and similar organizations that are supporting Black communities. Others have used social media to direct messages via shared comments and tweets to their millions of followers. And spotted marching alongside those in the struggle for justice, spreading significant messages along the way.
Basically, what we’ve learned this week is that, in all facets of life, speaking truth to power requires influential people from all over the world. And that the years of work from the Black communities in particular in calling out their favours are not fruitless.
As it is preferable to sometimes step up and not wait for celebrities to speak or encourage us before we make a move. It is an undoubtable fact that celebrities are also very important and they hold a significant power in their support. But there’s even more power in the fans criticizing, pressing, and demanding celebrities to stand up and donate.
So, for all of us women out there, here’s a reminder to follow the steps of these female celebrities and do what we can to help Black communities restore their earned rights. Put our money, our skills and our resources to make a change. Big or small. We must understand that we have the power to fight for justice.
