We all encounter change in life — sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. Once the bad people come around, it’s up to us to react. To choose to remain trapped, or to turn the ship around; it’s up to us to make that decision.
You may feel like you are too old to make major life changes. But no matter what age you are, you can still turn your life around. Here are some valuable insights that will help you shift course at any age.
Deduct the wrong stuff.
– When things don’t add up in your life, it’s time to begin subtracting. Often you have to let it go to grow. You can not explore new oceans unless you build up the confidence to lose sight of the old, familiar shore. Be courageous. Follow your principles. Take risks. Make some change. And note, no undertaking is a waste of time. Those that don’t work out will teach you lessons that will prepare you for those that do.
The present is what’s important.
Don’t trip on anything behind you. Don’t let your shadow lead you around. You’re not a prisoner to your past. Just let it go and carry on. If you’re busy focusing on what’s been, or what’s about to be, you’re robbing yourself of the moment. Living in the now is where the change you want begins.
Surround yourself with the right kind of people.
– Surrounding yourself with the right people allows you to start doing the right things. You’re just as valuable as the people you associate yourself with, but be bold enough to let go of those that weigh you down and hold on to those who reflect who you aspire to be.
Believe that you CAN.
– The greatest barrier that keeps people from making their dreams come true is the fear that they’re not good enough. Don’t be scared of the distance between your dreams and your reality. You’re good enough! Don’t let life stop you from doing so. Success is always closer than it seems to be. All is feasible in time with enough commitment and focus. Everybody who got to where they are had to start from where they were, just like you.
Focus on the journey, not the destination.
– If what you can worry about is where you’re going, you’ll lose touch with where you are. Each step has its own insights and values and grace, so don’t lose out on getting ahead of yourself.
Dedicate time to love yourself every day.
– Only when we can sit alone quietly and look with honest eyes at our strengths and our weaknesses, our failures, and our triumphs, our humanness and our moral strength, and love ourselves in spite of, and because of all that we are, will we begin to truly understand the meaning and power of unconditional love.
