Seeing $5 on the street can make your face glow, but can that money actually make you happy? A study says that the old saying can have some validity.
Research from Yale University and the University of Cambridge showed that you could get a better bang for your “happiness” buck than we once believed. It’s all about how you’re spending your money.
There is no question that money and happiness are irrevocably related, but more of one does not always imply more of the other. It isn’t about collecting money, but rather using it as a way to create long-lasting feelings of positivity.
Eliminating financial stress
The explanation that money provably raises the degree of satisfaction up to a degree is that it takes a certain wage to make you feel financially comfortable.
Getting enough money means nothing to worry about while shopping in a grocery store, dining out, or paying the rent. This form of vulnerability is forgotten when you’re used to it.
Knowing and being grateful for the fact that you’re free to buy things will make you happier even when you’ve settled to a standard amount of your finances. Basically, finding enough money to afford these essential needs would definitely raise your level of satisfaction.
Spend on experiences
Spending cash on experiences rather than things have been found to make people happy. The expectation of an occurrence adds a degree of satisfaction to itself. That’s why we start daydreaming about traveling around the world or about our beach getaway; thinking how relaxed we’re going to be on the sand with a nice book.
When the experience is done, we will revisit the memories over and over. Memories of holidays, festivals, and quality time spent with someone you enjoy far outlast the memory of purchasing a new dress.
Give to charity
Giving back to someone gives us pleasure, too. Sharing money with those who need it will go a long way in the lives of others. It is a warm sensation to be able to see the difference that you are making. Eventually, wealth offers you a stronger ability to donate to charities and make an impact that makes both others and yourself better off.
Hanging out more often
Unless you have stomach troubles, you don’t have to sit home and you can go out and have a nice meal at a great restaurant whenever you want. That’s pleasure for some people. Dining out at the nicest restaurants and being able to buy business class seats whilst on the trip! You should learn to know new people, make new friends, and have a fantastic social life. Yeah, if you’re snobbish, forget about making deep connections, but if you’re not, you may have a wonderful existence.
