The Risks Of Poor Nutrition On Our Health

Good nutrition, focused on balanced eating, is a crucial factor that lets us remain healthy and productive.

Following a diet that is unbalanced and having bad eating decisions impacts your general health. The food you put in your body significantly impacts how you sleep, your weight, and the chance of contracting chronic diseases. Making improvements to your diet and losing a moderate amount of weight will lower your blood pressure, decrease your blood cholesterol, and reduce the chances of severe chronic disease.

What Causes Poor Nutrition?

Bad eating habits include under-eating or over-eating, not getting enough of the nutritious food we need every day, or drinking too many forms of food and drink that are low in fiber or high in calories, salt and/or sugar.

Such risky eating habits will affect our consumption of nutrients, including energy (kilojoules) proteins, carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, as well as fiber and fluids.

How Does Poor Diet Affect Us?

A bad diet will affect our everyday health and well-being and reduce our capacity to live a fun and healthy life.

Throughout the short term, an inadequate diet can lead to discomfort, exhaustion and our capacity to work, and over time it can add to the possibility of contracting other illnesses and other health issues, such as:

  • Being overweight or obese
  • Tooth decay
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Heart disease and stroke
  • Type-2 diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Fatigue
  • Some cancers
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders.
  • Bowel Problems

Steps to Good Nutrition – It’s Easier Than You Think

A good place to start is to:

  • Look for two servings of fruit and five servings of vegetables per day.
  • Just rarely consume sugary, fatty or salty food, and then only in limited amounts.
  • Drink fresh, clean tap water instead of a sweet soda.
  • Turn to safe meals that look amazing and taste good.
  • Prepare your meals ahead of time and look for safe ingredients
  • Enjoy cooking and eating nutritious meals for family or friends, without disruptions such as TV.
